I look forward to doing the Dutch campaign soon, and would hope the devs would consider doing Port Royal 5 at some point. I would finish by saying even after completing two campaigns I'm far from an expert on the game and feel I still have much to learn, which is always a good thing. It's a nice mix of ambiance with a few memorable melodies in there, and certainly very appropriate for the game. I almost forgot, the music in the game is very good too. I've not yet done the full-on pirate mode campaign (which I'm saving for last), but having dealt with them a few times now, they can be a complex enemy and not to be taken lightly. Also, the level of detail you get when you zoom in on things is astounding at times!Ī word about the pirates. ) The panning cinematic effect before battles is especially beautiful, and you also get some cool weather and seasonal effects as well. The game's visuals are quite pleasing to the eye, and playing it got me in the mood for a James Bond movie or something set in an exotic locale like the Caribbean. It took me about 4-5 attempts to complete it, and was very satisfying when I finally got the win. I've completed the first two campaigns as of this writing, the Spanish and the British, and it's worth noting that the British campaign really upped the ante with combat and was actually a significant step up in difficulty from the Spanish campaign. however, is that although winning the sometimes tough naval battles is satisfying, what's even more satisfying is being able to balance your checkbook and seeing your bank account expand into the millions, especially after hovering dangerously close to bankruptcy. Also, my experience thus far has been that the battles happen often enough to keep things interesting, but not so much that you get burned out on them. I found the turn-based ship combat to be loads of fun with very pleasing gfx. And concerning these Viceroy quests, the game gives you plenty of time to complete them, so I never felt super-rushed. It is a moderately complex game, though the extensive tutorials helped a lot, as does your faction's Viceroy who keeps you focused on what's important by giving you mandatory quests to complete. For me it has been a unique strategy experience unlike anything I've played before, mixing as it does business and city building with trading, occasional sea combat, and some mild exploration and fetch quests. I almost hate to admit that the 'mixed' reviews of this game scared me away from it for quite a while, but I'm glad I finally took the chance and tried it for myself.
